Security

Security is the biggest threat in the world today. Hunger, poverty, epidemics, natural hazards ... all gone. Now it all about threats.
Well, last few weeks, news sites are inundated with requests of knowing whats happening in Lebonon, Isareli front, and not to go far, we have our own locally brewed Terrorism too.
So threats are not only for computers huh, Anyway, in a way its good, its a big business. Arms, counter Arms, IT security guys, virus guards, firewalls, insurance. That narrows down to its something u cant live without, after food, water and air, u get Security. mmm Is it after love ??? or before .....
Im bit different ..., even in projects, i resist doing security implementations. ... Got to to find why

.Net Web Services

.Net is often praised for its tools and facilities to write a new web service. True I agree, it merely takes 5 minustes if u know .net to write a new service and publish it. But after that ????
.Net do WS in its own style. user does not even need to know the fact it is remote. SOAP, forget abt it, no body knows they use it.
But what if one programmer want to introduce some feature into it, say it want to support Addressing .. ? The the fun time starts. Basically you end up with rewriting whole Web Service stack to do this, I mean to support interoperability there after.
Its better to have something closed, rather than making one half open. Using a open standard and hiding its implementation is like stranded in the rd blind folded. Either take him off the road, or remove the blind

Lost updates

I was adding a blog and lost the update, due to (dont know the reason). Guess its a network issue. We re hightly talking abt, reliability, security, all junk but there is no way we can stop intermittent failures in System.
Are systems subject to fail. Since everybeing is subject to death, this is no exception.
Will this blog go ?, Lets try our luck

Interviews

Finding suitable candidates for SW engineering post is a nightmare in this country. Either we dont get anybody whos good, or Sri Lanka does not produce ppl with brains. Or is it we dont have places where we can train ppl.
Whatever the reason, it really hampers the SL software industry.
One biggest problem I saw was, ppl knows what is mentioned in the book, but never keen to find anything in the background.
Parrots can be a menance. :P

Long time no updates

Sorry, I coundnt update this for long, due to this, that and the other reason. I think its time to start this formally. ( I always do this, see how it goes)

I was going through a Foss (Free and open souce software) conference, and there are some good stuff I got to know. I was really taken up by prof lassies talk. I hundred pecent with his point, that closeness forbids innovation.
I guess we need to make more sound on pushing software vendors to make their systems to be free and open source, if they really want to serve the world
